Works in Progress

Below are some of my larger scale works that are still in progress.

Rock Coffee Table, In progress

Material: Poplar Dimensions: 46” by 28” by 13.5” (table top height) 19” at peak-height

This table was built using stack lamination and carved to emulate a rock-like structure that felt simultaneously organic yet other- worldly. The table is three-legged and features a cave-like nook on one end and a built-in bowl on the other.

Large Jar, July 2021
Materials: High Fire Stoneware Dimensions: 19.25" height ; 64" Diameter

This pot was made with a total of 83 pounds of Starworks Clay (Grogeewemee- Cone 10). The base of the piece was made by throwing 16 pounds of clay on the wheel. I then built up the form through the process of blow torching the thrown piece and attaching two equal sized hand rolled coils to it. The coils were compressed by hand and by paddling. The coils were then altered by throwing them to match the form and create height. This process was repeated for the entire form. I then bisque- fired the pot.

I have been waiting to fire this pot in a wood-fired kiln. If you have any leads to one happening soon in WNC reach out!

Dyed Cloth, ongoing
Materials: Cotton, Natural Dyes, Acrylic Paint

I naturally dyed canvas cloth with weld, madder root, cochineal, cutch, and avocado. Prior to dyeing, each piece was scoured and pre-mordanted with sumac gallnut extract and then a mix of alum and sodium acetate was used as a mordant. I used a citric-acid and guar gum solution to discharge the mordant to achieve a reverse pattern on some of the pieces of fabric, via painting it on and by using objects as stamps. The pieces that were printed this way were dunged using a calcium carbonate and wheat bran solution.

On one of the canvases, I juxtaposed the natural dye by airbrushing patterns on it.

These fabrics were originally intended to be used to sew sun hats- but I am open to using them in a collaborative fashion. So if they speak to you- reach out!!

Three-Legged Serving Table, In progress
Materials: cherry, plywood, venner

This is a pedestal side table I am currently working on. I turned the center pedestal on the lathe. The top is going to be hinged, so that the table top can be displayed vertically, or be locked in place horizontally, for use.
