Bandsaw Box

I designed this box to aid in the act of rituals and to elevate mundane objects to the sacred by encouraging observation and reflection in one’s daily life. It features an arched cut out that can be used as an altar space. The shelves surrounding the altar differ in shape and depth, encouraging the user to find objects in their everyday life that fit the space. The flat spot on the top of the box can act as a second altar or be a space to hold tarot cards. There is a carved bowl in the top left, which can be pushed up from the bottom, via the cut- out, to aid in the removal for cleaning. The front drawer was created to hold an item the user wants to leave in the drawer so that it remains for all rituals. The bottom drawer is accessible from both sides and runs the entire length of the box. It can hold items that symbolize the grounding nature of rituals, since it is directly below the altar, or hold items like incense.
