The two-slat chair is a direct reproduction of the “JA” chair designed by Jennie Alexander and the one- slat chair is a modified version of the JA chair and is titled "to sit on a cloud.” Both post and rung chairs were hewed from greenwood logs, using an axe, froe, hammer and wedge. With the exception of a power drill, only hand tools were used for the process, primarily a drawknife and spokeshave. Using a kiln, a moisture differential was created between the posts and rungs. When the chairs were assembled the posts contained more moisture than the rungs. As the posts dried, they shrunk around the rungs and the rungs expanded slightly, due to absorbing atmospheric moisture. The back slats, along with the back posts on the JA chair, were steam bent to shape. The seats were woven using shaker tape.
